On monday, February 24th, our staff at Icelandair Logistics in Liege organised the transportation of a new GenX engine for a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 aircraft from Liege to Hamburg. The engine barely got into a TNT B777F aircraft from JFK. A special crane was therefore ordered to lift the engine. Two flight mechanics from Lufthansa Technic arrived on the scene with a special truck from HAM and a small van equipped with a sling lift gadget specifically designed to lift GenX engines. Our role in this process was to ensure that everything went according to plan as well as handling the T1 customs paperwork. This process took about 4 hours, from the arrival of the crane until the truck set off with the 20 million USD engine which weighed 13.1 tons.
